Jose Ma. C. Avila, MD is a former member of the Editorial Board of Western Pacific Region Index Medicus (WPRIM) and present chairman of the Philippine Journal Selection Committee to WPRIM. He is a member of the Research Utilization Committee of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (PCHRD). He is also the former Chairman and a Professor of the Department of Pathology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila. Dr. Avila was President of the Philippine Society of Pathologists from 2002-2003 and was Chief of the Surgical Pathology Section of the Department of Laboratories, Philippine General Hospital from 2003-2006. He was also a recipient of various awards for outstanding research and publication. He has several articles published locally and internationally.
Vicente Y. Belizario, Jr., MD, MTM&H is the Vice Chancellor for Research and Executive Director of the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila and a Professor 10 and University Scientist II at the Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. He is also an Adjunct Faculty at the Global Health Program of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a Member of the Scientific and Technical Advisory Committee (STAC), UNICEF/UNDP/World Bank/WHO Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (WHO-TDR). Dr. Belizario is a recipient of various university and national awards for excellence in teaching, research and publications. He is also an editor and contributor of the Philippine Textbook of Medical Parasitology and has over 50 scientific publications on neglected tropical and parasitic diseases in several local and international journals.
Cynthia P. Cordero, MSPH, M Med Stat is a Professor at the Department of Clinical Epidemiology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila and a consultant of the Newborn Screening Reference Center, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. Prof. Cordero is also the recipient of University of the Philippines Centennial Faculty Grant in 2008. She has authored a number of papers and developed teaching tools.
Eva Maria C. Cutiongco-de la Paz, MD is the Director of the Institute of Human Genetics, National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines Manila and a Clinical and Research Associate Professor. Dr. Cutiongco-de la Paz graduated from her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the UP College of Science in 1984. She finished her Doctor of Medicine degree from the UP College of Medicine in 1989 and completed her Pediatric residency at the Philippine General Hospital in 1992. She has received awards as an outstanding intern and most outstanding resident in Pediatrics in the same institution. She had her research fellowship in Molecular Genetics at the International Center for Medical Research at the Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine in Japan under the Japanese Monbusho Scholarship and took her subspecialty training in Clinical Genetics at The Hospital for Sick Children, University of Toronto, Canada as a UP Medical Alumni Society of America Scholar. She was board certified as a fellow by the Canadian College of Medical Geneticists in 2000. Dr Cutiongco-de la Paz was a Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) awardee for the field of Genetic Medicine in 2002 and was also recognized by the National Academy of Science and Technology as one of The Outstanding Young Scientists (OYS) in the same year. She was also awarded as one of The Outstanding Women in the Nation’s Service (TOWNS) for Medicine in 2007. She has received the 2011 UP Manila's Outstanding Researcher and the Professorial Chair for Excellence in Teaching and Research in pediatrics and genetics. She was the chair of the Technical Review Board of the NIH Philippines from 2006-2011 and was recently appointed as Program Director for the Genomics Health Program of the Philippine Genome Center. Her most recent award is the Dr. Jose Rizal Memorial Award for Research given by the Philippine Medical Association last May 2012.
Rodney B. Dofitas, MD is the Coordinator for Training and Research and Head of Expanded Hospital Research Office at the Philippine General Hospital. He is also a Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila and Co-chair of Research Implementation and Development Office. Dr. Dofitas is also involved in Circuit Course with Surgical Mission in Roxas Memorial Provincial Hospital in Roxas City.
Marie Carmela M. Lapitan, MD is the Deputy Executive Director and a Research Associate Professor 7 at the National Institutes of Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. She is also a Clinical Associate Professor in Surgery at the College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila. She has authored numerous research works on urinary continence, andrology, general urology and general surgery, surgical education and safety in surgery, published in international and local scientific peer-reviewed journals, and presented in several local and international conventions. She has participated in and led several research projects on general surgery and urology, male ageing and incontinence, including the APCAB Incontinence and Overactive Bladder Epidemiology Survey and Cochrane Systematic Reviews on Incontinence, and the WHO Safe Surgery Global Study. She also delivered lectures on various general urology topics, incontinence, patient safety, and medical informatics in local and international conferences and authored chapters on internationally published books on incontinence.
Alvin B. Marcelo, MD is a surgeon and an acknowledged leader in health information management in the Philippines with more than ten years of experience in health informatics. He was one of the awardees of The Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) of 2005 for Medicine/Medical Informatics. Dr. Marcelo was an Associate Professor and Chief of UP Medical Informatics Unit and Director of UP Manila National Telehealth Center from 2001-2006.
Nemencio A. Nicodemus, Jr., MD is an Associate Professor of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, College of Medicine, University of the Philippines, Manila, and Clinical Associate Professor in the Section of Adult Medicine, Department of Medicine, UP-Philippine General Hospital. He is also an Associate Professor at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, a member of the faculty of Asia Pacific Center for Evidence-based Medicine, and Assistant Vice-Chair at the Department of Medicine of Manila Doctors Hospital. Dr. Nicodemus has edited a book in Diabetes and written several journal articles published locally and internationally. He was principal investigator and worked as part of collaborative group in a number of clinical trials.
Pilarita N. Tongol-Rivera, MD, PhD is a Professor of the Department of Parasitology, College of Public Health, University of the Philippines, Manila. She has earned her Doctor of Philosophy degree at the Gunma University in Japan. She was one of the recipients of Centennial Professorial Chair in 2008. Dr. Tongol-Rivera has several researches/articles published locally and internationally and has written a number of modules, manuals and books.
